IONS® is an event created by OSA (The Optical Society of America) to promote an active participation of student chapter members from all around the world and it is organized by students for students. For more information about IONS and OSA click go to: HERE. This year, 2017, Colombia will host his first IONS, in Bogotá, the capital and biggest city of the country. Bogotá is a diverse and multicultural place, it is a convergent point from all the people and cultures in Colombia.  In IONS Bogotá, you will be in contact with great students from different parts of the world, listen to talks given by local and international researchers and have a nice time in social and cultural events.

The OSA/SPIE student chapters at Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá) will host the fourth IONS® in South America. We scheduled four days of great professional and technical development, network building and fun. Our program has activities like technical student talks, chapter activities discussions, outreach activity, talks of our invited lecturers, a pannel about Physics on industry , tourism, optical related art in Bogotá and Guatavita and informal social events every night. You can check the detailed schedule on the Program page.

The main subjects in the event will be classical optics such as optical coherence, holography, microscopy; quantum optics in nonlinear systems, communications and correlation; photonics and finally but not only, optics applied in biophysical systems. To cover the subjects, it is an honor for us to host 5 key speakers in our conference. For more information about them click here: http://ionsbogota.osahost.org/keynote-speakers/

Registration for the conference is free to both SPIE and OSA Student Chapter members. Most meals are included and accommodation grant support is available for students who present a poster or an oral presentation.

IONS Bogotá will give you, the assistant, also the opportunity to experience the culture of Colombia and see plenty of green spaces and wonderful landscapes and sights. For example, the Sanctuary of Monserrate shows the magnificent of being bounded by the group of the large Andes Mountains by the East and the Gold Musseum takes you to the vast pre-Columbian era.
